  • Your Impact as a Volunteer

Choosing to volunteer on our Travel Roots Turtle Conservation Program in Mexico means playing a vital role in the survival of endangered sea turtles. Every nest you help protect, every egg you relocate, and every hatchling you guide to the ocean directly boosts the survival chances of these incredible marine animals.

Your work helps reduce threats from poaching, natural predators, and habitat loss. By supporting night patrols, hatchery operations, and community education, you contribute to reversing the decline of sea turtle populations along Mexico’s Pacific coast.

Beyond the beaches, your involvement helps sustain community conservation initiatives, supports local livelihoods through eco-tourism, and inspires the next generation to value and protect marine life. Every effort you make leaves a lasting, positive impact on both wildlife and people.

  • Your home on Mexico’s Pacific coast

Volunteers stay in a simple, eco-friendly camp located just meters from the nesting beaches. Designed for low-impact living, the camp offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature while supporting conservation efforts.

    Sleeping arrangements
You will be accommodated in shared wooden cabins or spacious tents, depending on availability and group size. Cabins and tents include basic bedding (mattress, sheet, and pillow). Accommodation is rustic but comfortable, offering an authentic experience close to the natural environment you’re helping to protect.

    What’s provided
    • Access to shared bathroom facilities with showers and toilets
    • Fresh drinking water
    • Three nutritious meals per day (vegetarian and vegan options available)
    • Communal dining and relaxation areas with shade
    • Simple electricity and lighting powered by solar energy

The camp is a communal and welcoming space where volunteers, local coordinators, and community members come together to share meals, stories, and the rewarding work of turtle conservation. Evenings often bring stunning sunsets and clear night skies, perfect for unwinding after a day’s efforts.

  • History

Our trusted partner for this program works with grassroots conservation groups along Mexico’s Pacific coast, protecting sea turtles through community-led initiatives. For over a decade, they have partnered with local families, indigenous communities, and conservation cooperatives to protect nesting beaches, operate hatcheries, and promote sustainable eco-tourism.

Their work arose from the need to reduce poaching and habitat destruction, while providing local communities with sustainable alternatives through ethical conservation tourism.

    Mission & Vision

The mission is to protect sea turtle populations through effective nest protection, habitat conservation, and community education. By combining conservation action with responsible eco-tourism, their projects aim to ensure that both wildlife and coastal communities can thrive together.

The vision is a future where marine wildlife is safeguarded by the very communities that share its habitat, creating lasting benefits for both people and nature along Mexico’s biodiverse Pacific coastline.
