Promote physical wellbeing, teamwork, and youth empowerment through sport

Volunteer Homestay

Up to 6 hours per day
5 days per week

  • Our Travel Roots Sports Development Program in Morocco is designed for volunteers who believe in the power of sport to inspire, motivate, and build strong communities. In many underfunded neighbourhoods across Morocco, access to structured physical education is limited—yet children and teens have a deep love for movement, games, and teamwork.

As a volunteer, you’ll work with schools, community centres, or local sports clubs to lead activities that promote physical fitness, discipline, and cooperation. You might run warm-ups, lead skill drills, organise matches, or simply bring energy and encouragement to young players. Whether it’s football, basketball, athletics, or games for younger children, your involvement helps create a fun and positive environment where everyone feels included.

You’ll have the flexibility to introduce new ideas or sports based on your own background and interests. No formal coaching qualification is required—just a genuine passion for working with youth and supporting their growth on and off the field.

    Key Activities:

    • Assisting PE teachers or local coaches with sports sessions

    • Leading warm-ups, drills, and fun team-building exercises

    • Organising mini-tournaments or sports days

    • Teaching basic techniques in football, basketball, or other games

    • Encouraging teamwork, discipline, and fair play

    • Supporting children with limited access to structured physical activity

This is the perfect program for active, energetic volunteers who want to give back while promoting health, confidence, and connection through sport.

  • By volunteering on Our Travel Roots Sports Development Program in Morocco, you will:

•Encourage physical health, teamwork, and confidence in young people
•Support underfunded schools and community centres through sport
•Lead fun and engaging games, training sessions, or matches
•Use your energy to make a real difference in children’s daily lives
•Develop leadership, coaching, and youth mentoring skills
•Live with a local host family and become part of a warm community
•Experience Morocco’s vibrant culture and natural beauty during your time off

  • What to Expect: A Day in the Life of a Sports Development  Volunteer In Morocco

Every day on Our Travel Roots Sports Development Program in Morocco is full of energy, laughter, and movement. You’ll be working in schools or community spaces, using sport as a tool for engagement, education, and empowerment.

    8:30 AM – Morning Planning & Arrival
Head to your assigned school or centre and meet with staff or fellow volunteers. Plan the day’s activities—this could include skill drills, team games, or setting up for a mini tournament.

    9:30 AM – Warm-Up & Drills
Begin the day with warm-up routines followed by structured exercises that focus on coordination, agility, or specific skills depending on the sport and age group.

    10:30 AM – Games & Free Play
Transition into matches or fun team games. You might referee, coach from the sidelines, or even join in—depending on the day’s focus and energy levels.

    12:00 PM – Cool Down & Reflection
Wrap up the session with stretching, feedback, and encouragement. Take time to connect with the students and reflect on the session’s success.

1:00 PM – Return for Lunch
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch with your host family and take a rest.

Afternoons – Optional Activities or Free Time
Some placements may offer afternoon sports clubs, fitness sessions, or planning time. If not, enjoy your free time exploring the local area or joining a language class.

    Days Off
Weekends are free for you to travel, rest, or join organised excursions. From city tours to mountain hikes or beach escapes, there's plenty to explore beyond the program.

Through sport, you’ll not only build young people’s physical abilities—you’ll help develop life skills like confidence, cooperation, and resilience.

  • Your Impact as a Volunteer

Volunteering on Our Travel Roots Sports Development Program in Morocco means more than just playing games—it’s about using sport as a catalyst for growth, connection, and confidence in communities that need it most.

For many children in under-resourced areas, sports sessions with volunteers are the highlight of their week. Your energy and encouragement help create a safe space where they can move freely, express themselves, and feel supported. Through teamwork and play, you’ll help build discipline, resilience, and self-esteem in young people—skills that go far beyond the pitch or court.

Your presence also supports local coaches and teachers, helping reduce class sizes and giving more students the attention they deserve. Whether you’re leading drills, introducing new games, or simply offering a high-five after a great play, every interaction counts.

At the same time, you’ll grow personally—building leadership and communication skills, learning how to work with different age groups, and discovering just how powerful sport can be in changing lives.

  • Your Home in Morocco

During your time on the program, you’ll be welcomed into a Moroccan homestay, where you'll live with a local family alongside fellow volunteers. This isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a cultural immersion. You’ll gain a first-hand experience of daily Moroccan life, from shared meals to meaningful conversations and traditions passed down through generations.

    Sleeping Arrangements
Volunteers may have their own room or share with one or two others, depending on the homestay. All rooms are comfortable and equipped with the essentials. Moroccan homes are communal by nature, with shared living areas and traditional couches (known as sedari) used for both sitting and dining.

    What’s Provided
    •Bed and fresh linens
•Three daily meals prepared by your host family
•Wi-Fi access (available in all Rabat homestays)
•Support from your local host family throughout your stay

    What to Bring

    Cultural Connection
Staying with a host family offers a rich opportunity to practice Darija (Moroccan Arabic dialect), try authentic home-cooked dishes like tagine and couscous, and engage in local customs. Your host family also receives support through your program fee, helping to empower local households while offering you a warm, inclusive space to call home.

  • History

This community-driven initiative was created to connect passionate volunteers with local associations, daycares, and grassroots organisations across Morocco—in cities like Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, and Marrakech. It began as a way to support underfunded projects by matching them with individuals from around the world who want to make a difference while experiencing life in North Africa.

By working directly with local partners, this platform ensures that every volunteer placement is meaningful and well-supported. From early childhood centres to women’s empowerment initiatives, each collaboration focuses on real needs within the community and fosters long-term development through global exchange.

    Mission & Vision

The mission is simple: to create authentic, impactful volunteer experiences that benefit both the local communities and the volunteers themselves. With a strong belief in cultural exchange and mutual learning, the platform offers flexible project options across various social and educational fields.

Volunteers are encouraged to immerse themselves in Moroccan life—whether through Arabic or French language classes, local excursions, or living with a host family—while making a tangible contribution to community wellbeing. The vision is a world where travel is more than sightseeing; it’s about connection, contribution, and shared growth.

Where You’ll Be – The Heart of Morocco’s Cultural Landscape

Your placement will be based in one of Morocco’s vibrant cities—Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, or Marrakech. Each location offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern life, with colourful medinas, bustling souks, and a rich cultural heritage around every corner.

Rabat, the capital city, is a relaxed coastal hub with palm-lined boulevards and centuries-old architecture. Its neighbour, Salé, offers a more traditional, local experience just across the river. Casablanca—the country’s economic centre—buzzes with energy, while Marrakech stuns with its red city walls, winding alleyways, and iconic Jemaa el-Fnaa square.

No matter where you’re placed, you’ll be welcomed into a warm, friendly community that values connection, tradition, and generosity. Your homestay accommodation will be close to your volunteer site, giving you a true taste of daily Moroccan life.
