Provide English education while completing immersive Spanish course

Minimum 8 weeks required (Recommended 8–16 weeks)

  • Want to teach English abroad while learning Spanish in one of South America's most vibrant cities? Our Travel Roots English Teaching & Learn Spanish Program in Buenos Aires offers a truly immersive cultural and educational experience. Over 8 to 16 weeks, you’ll gain valuable classroom teaching experience while studying Spanish through a structured, university-level curriculum.

Volunteers teach English for approximately 15 hours per week in local schools, community centres, or social projects located throughout Buenos Aires. No previous teaching experience is required—just a strong desire to help others and a native-level command of English.

Alongside your teaching, you’ll attend 20 hours per week of small-group Spanish classes led by qualified instructors. These courses are intensive, progressive, and academically designed to help you gain conversational and professional fluency in Spanish. Lessons include regular exams, comprehensive textbooks, and additional online exercises to track your progress.

This unique dual-focus program not only helps you give back to the local community—it also equips you with one of the most valuable global skills: bilingualism.

  • What to Expect: A Day in the Life of an English Teaching Volunteer

Each day in Buenos Aires blends structured learning, meaningful teaching, and cultural immersion. With mornings typically dedicated to Spanish classes and afternoons to volunteer teaching, you’ll find your routine both fulfilling and flexible.

Here’s what a typical weekday might look like:

8:30 AM – Spanish Language Class Begins
Head to your university-level Spanish lessons, where you’ll study in small groups with qualified instructors. Classes are engaging, fast-paced, and focused on grammar, vocabulary, and conversational fluency.

    12:30 PM – Lunch & Cultural Break
After class, enjoy lunch at a nearby café or prepare something at your shared apartment. Take time to relax, explore the neighbourhood, or review your Spanish notes.

2:00 PM – English Teaching Prep
Plan your English lessons or join a short volunteer meeting with fellow teachers. Resources and guidance are available, and you're encouraged to bring creativity into your teaching approach.

3:00 PM – English Classes Begin
Head to your teaching placement—this could be a community centre, local school, or nonprofit educational project. You’ll lead or assist with lessons that focus on speaking, listening, and building confidence in English.

5:30 PM – Free Time or Local Exploration
After teaching, the rest of the evening is yours. Stroll through one of Buenos Aires’ iconic neighbourhoods like Palermo or San Telmo, visit a bookstore, join a local dance class, or simply enjoy a mate tea in the park.

    Weekends – Discover Argentina
Your weekends are free to explore. Visit nearby Tigre Delta, take a tango class, watch a fútbol match, or head out on weekend trips to Iguazú Falls, Mendoza’s wine country, or the wilds of Patagonia.

  • Your Impact as a Volunteer

Your role as a volunteer English teacher in Buenos Aires goes far beyond grammar lessons and vocabulary drills—it’s about opening doors.

In many underserved communities, English is more than a subject—it’s a pathway to opportunity. By helping children, teens, and adults build their language skills, you’re giving them tools that can lead to better jobs, higher education, and greater confidence in a globalised world.

Each lesson you deliver boosts their chances of accessing life-changing opportunities, especially in tourism, business, and education. Many of your students may have never spoken to a native English speaker before—and your presence alone can inspire a new sense of possibility.

But the impact is mutual. As you guide your students, you’ll also be growing—building your cross-cultural communication skills, gaining real-world teaching experience, and immersing yourself in one of Latin America’s most dynamic cultures.

From your first class to your final goodbye, your efforts will leave a lasting mark—not only on your students, but also on your personal journey.

  • History

Established over a decade ago in response to a growing demand for accessible English education in Buenos Aires, our trusted partner has been supporting community-based initiatives that empower locals through language. Recognising that fluency in English can open doors to better jobs, higher education, and global opportunities, this project was created to bridge the gap between native English speakers and underserved neighbourhoods across the city.

Today, the project supports a wide network of schools, cultural centres, and grassroots organisations by providing consistent, high-quality English classes to those who need it most.

    Mission & Vision
