Host family or volunteer house/hostel

Up to 6 hours per day
5 days per week

  • Want to volunteer with children in Tanzania? Our Travel Roots Vulnerable Children Sponsorship Program is dedicated to uplifting underprivileged children by ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, and a supportive learning environment.

This volunteer opportunity places you at the heart of a deeply impactful initiative. Many families in the region cannot afford private school education, resulting in children entering secondary school without adequate English proficiency or academic foundations.

Through this program, children from vulnerable backgrounds are enrolled in private schools with the support of sponsors—helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As a volunteer, you’ll work closely with the local team to assist with:

    • Administrative support for the sponsorship program

    • Home and school visits to assess children's progress and well-being

    • Documentation and storytelling to keep sponsors informed (letters, photos, updates)

    • Educational activities and workshops for the children

    • Community outreach to raise awareness about the value of education

    • Coordination of special events or celebrations for the children and families

This program is ideal for volunteers passionate about child development, education, and advocacy. Your presence and energy will support a system that brings hope and real opportunity to children who need it most.

  • By volunteering on our Vulnerable Children Sponsorship Program in Tanzania, you will:

    • Support access to quality education for underprivileged children in rural communities

    • Assist in tracking and documenting the academic and personal progress of sponsored children

    • Help maintain meaningful connections between sponsors and the children they support

    • Gain hands-on experience in grassroots child development programs

    • Be part of a supportive team working to break cycles of poverty and inequality

    • Build lasting bonds with the children and families in the community

    • Deepen your understanding of education systems and cultural contexts in East Africa

    • Develop transferable skills in child welfare, social work, and program coordination

    • Make a real difference by offering encouragement, joy, and opportunity to vulnerable youth

    • Leave with unforgettable memories and a sense of having truly contributed to something meaningful

  • What to Expect: A Day in the Life of a Vulnerable Child Teacher in Tanzania.

As a volunteer, you’ll play an active role in daily operations and community development initiatives—whether in childcare, education, healthcare, gardening, or skills training. No two days are exactly the same, but each is filled with purpose, learning, and meaningful connection.

You'll start your day immersed in the rhythms of rural Tanzanian life, collaborating with local staff and other international volunteers on key programs. Whether you're working with young children in the classroom, helping women in vocational training, or tending to the flourishing organic gardens, your impact will be immediate and lasting.

  • Your Impact as a Volunteer

By volunteering on our Vulnerable Children Sponsorship Program in Tanzania, you’ll be part of a grassroots initiative that’s transforming lives—both for the children and for the local community.

Your presence and support will help ensure that vulnerable children receive consistent, quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. You'll be working alongside local teachers and caregivers to deliver early learning, social development, and essential care for children who would otherwise be left behind.

But your impact doesn’t end with the children. By engaging with families, supporting fundraising efforts, or participating in community outreach, you're helping build a more resilient and empowered local network. Whether you’re assisting in education, helping develop vocational programs, or working in the garden to improve nutrition, your contributions ripple across the entire community.

What you do here matters. From offering love and attention to helping with structure and long-term planning, you’ll play an active role in shaping brighter futures. And while you’re giving back, you're also growing—gaining experience, expanding your worldview, and developing valuable skills that will stay with you long after your journey ends.

This accommodation setup is intended to give you peace of mind so you can focus fully on the meaningful work you’re here to do—supporting vulnerable children and becoming part of a deeply impactful local initiative.

  • History

Founded in 2021, this impactful community initiative began with a vision to uplift disadvantaged families in Nasholi Village, Kikatiti–Arusha. What started as a humble daycare for just two children quickly grew into a beacon of hope for many more. Within months, the center expanded to care for 15 children, and now provides early childhood education and support for over 40 children aged 2–6.

The center operates as a full-time daycare facility offering academic support, emotional nurturing, and physical wellbeing services to children who would otherwise be denied basic human needs. With limited resources and a rented facility, they have still managed to create a safe and nurturing environment—an incredible achievement powered by passion and community collaboration.

The team is currently working toward securing their own land to build a permanent center, with half of the funding already raised.

    Mission & Vision

The mission is clear: to resolve development challenges in underprivileged communities through education, health, childcare, life skills, and conservation. Their goal is to foster equity by empowering women, uplifting vulnerable children, promoting healthcare access, and developing sustainable agricultural practices.

By working closely with international volunteers and interns, they also promote cultural exchange and mutual learning—expanding horizons for both the volunteers and the communities they serve. At its core, the vision is to build a future where every child—regardless of background—has access to education, opportunity, and the chance to be the hero of their own story.
