Support early childhood development through care, play, and learning

Choose from 1–12 weeks

Shared volunteer homestay

Up to 5 hours per day
2 days off per week

  • Want to support early childhood education in a peaceful coastal village? Our Childcare Program in Tianyar offers volunteers a heartwarming opportunity to engage with local children through play, creativity, and learning.

You’ll be working at a local kindergarten and early learning centre where children aged 3–5 are eager to learn, play, and grow. Resources are limited, and your support brings new energy, ideas, and inspiration into the classroom. Through your presence, you help create a fun and safe space where children can thrive socially, emotionally, and cognitively.

    Key Activities:

    • Assist local teachers with daily classroom routines

    • Lead arts, crafts, games, and interactive learning activities

    • Support with songs, storytelling, and basic English introductions

    • Help children with motor-skill activities like drawing and movement games

    • Maintain a clean and organised classroom environment

    • Offer extra care, attention, and encouragement to individual children

    • Participate in local cultural activities and school events

Your role is to supplement—not replace—the work of local staff, offering added support and creativity that makes the learning environment more engaging. No teaching experience is needed—just a kind heart, patience, and a willingness to show up each day for the children who look forward to seeing you.

  • By volunteering on our Childcare Program in Tianyar, Bali, you will:

    • Help support early childhood education in a peaceful coastal village

    • Assist with fun, interactive learning through games, songs, and creativity

    • Build strong bonds with local children and witness their growth

    • Gain experience in childcare, early learning, and cross-cultural engagement

    • Be part of a welcoming Balinese community that values your support

    • Contribute to long-term educational development in an underserved area

    • Enjoy beachside living while making a genuine impact through daily acts of care

  • What to Expect: A Day in the Life of a Childcare Volunteer

Life as a childcare volunteer in Tianyar is filled with smiles, creativity, and meaningful moments. You’ll be based at a small kindergarten, working alongside local teachers to support the daily care and early learning of bright, energetic children aged 3 to 5. While each day brings small variations, here’s what a typical schedule might look like:

7:30 AM – Morning Walk to School
Begin your day with a peaceful walk through the village or along the coast to the kindergarten. Enjoy the sunrise and greet locals as the community comes to life.

8:00 AM – Circle Time & English Songs
Join the class for the morning welcome session. Lead simple English greetings, songs, and rhymes to get the children energised and engaged.

9:00 AM – Arts, Crafts & Motor Skills
Help run creative activities like colouring, painting, or building with blocks—focusing on coordination, creativity, and expression. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own ideas and make learning fun.

10:30 AM – Snack Break & Outdoor Play
Supervise the children as they enjoy a snack, then join in on outdoor games, running, jumping, or playing on the beach if nearby. This is a great time for bonding and encouraging social interaction.

    11:30 AM – Storytime & Wind-Down
Help settle the group with picture books or guided quiet play as the school day winds down. Some children may rest or nap, others may do simple puzzles or look at books.

12:00 PM – School Finishes for the Day
Say goodbye to the children and help tidy the classroom. You’ll then return to the volunteer house for lunch and a well-earned rest.

    Afternoons & Evenings
After your morning shift, your time is free to relax, explore the coastline, plan lessons, or enjoy group activities with fellow volunteers. Some afternoons may offer optional cultural exchanges or village involvement.

    Days Off
You’ll have two days off per week to explore Bali—whether it’s snorkelling in Amed, hiking to waterfalls, or enjoying a yoga class in Ubud.

  • Your Impact as a Volunteer

By joining the Childcare Program in Tianyar, you’ll play a key role in supporting the emotional, social, and educational development of young children during their most formative years.

Many children in rural Bali begin school without the benefit of early learning experiences. Your presence helps bridge that gap—bringing warmth, creativity, and consistency into their lives. Through simple activities like songs, drawing, or one-on-one attention, you help build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Your impact also extends to the local staff, who gain support, inspiration, and encouragement from working alongside volunteers. You’re not only helping the children—you’re strengthening the whole classroom environment and contributing to a more supportive, nurturing learning space.

But perhaps most importantly, you’re showing these children that they matter. That someone travelled across the world just to be there with them, to share, to care, and to laugh. That kind of impact stays with them—and with you—forever.

You’ll receive three home-cooked Balinese meals per day, lovingly prepared by your host family. Expect a mix of rice, vegetables, eggs, tofu, noodles, and occasional chicken or fish. Vegetarian and vegan options are available with advance notice.

Meals are a chance to experience traditional Balinese hospitality—and to bond with fellow volunteers over delicious, nourishing food.

    Sustainable Living
Volunteers are encouraged to embrace simple, eco-conscious living. You’ll be asked to reduce plastic waste, conserve water, and be mindful of energy usage. Living with a local family also means respecting customs, being considerate, and engaging with your hosts as part of the extended Balinese family.

  • History

This grassroots, community-led initiative was founded by local Balinese people in response to the educational and developmental gaps faced by children in rural areas of the island. With limited access to structured early learning, many young children in coastal villages were entering school without foundational skills, making it harder for them to succeed later in life.

Over time, the project expanded across four regions—Tianyar, Seraya, Ubud, and Tabanan—creating multiple volunteer-led programs that provide support in areas like English language, music, arts, and physical education. The early childhood centre in Tianyar now welcomes volunteers from around the world to bring extra energy, attention, and joy to the lives of young children during their most formative years.

    Mission & Vision

The mission is to offer inclusive educational support to underserved children across Bali—fostering learning, confidence, and creativity from an early age. With a strong belief in community-based impact, the project empowers local families by delivering meaningful opportunities through volunteer-driven support.

The vision is a Bali where every child, no matter where they’re born, can learn in a safe, stimulating environment—guided by local values, supported by global friendships. Through long-term partnerships and cultural exchange, the program creates lasting change that extends far beyond the classroom.
