This course is designed to fast-track your journey into the conservation sector by equipping you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed. Through expert guidance, practical exercises, and career development strategies, you'll gain the tools to stand out in the competitive job market and make a real impact in the field of conservation.

  • Do you work in wildlife conservation, but feel you’d like to have more purpose, impact, and happiness in your career? This is an online course, which takes you through a step-by-step process to help you achieve just that.


    The structure of the course has been informed by six years of teaching career planning to over 120 amazing students on the University of Cambridge, Masters in Conservation Leadership.

    The commitment is around an hour per week, but you can choose to work entirely at your own pace over the course of a year. It’s totally flexible.

The Modules


The accelerator is organised into 17 units delivered over 12 weeks as shown below. You can choose to work at the pace of the units being released each week, which equates to about an hour per week, or do them entirely at your own pace. You have full access for a year, so there’s no rush or schedule to follow.


Balance | How to find more career fulfilment (quickly)?
In this unit, we’ll seek to identify ways for you to find more fulfilment from any role, including your current one.You’ll do this by gaining a deeper understanding of four key elements should be in a form of balance to feel greater happiness, day-to-day. Your task will be to identify ways to bring your current work into more balance to unlock some quick impact and get the course rolling.


Impact | How to increase your career impact five-fold?

In this unit, we’ll explore ways for you to unlock at least five times as much impact in your work, using two fundamental principles of productivity. Your task will be to identify the elements of your work which create most of your career fulfilment. Equally as important, we’ll also help you to find and minimise elements in your work which create most of your headaches, stress and pains.


Projection | What does your amazing career look-like?
The goal here is to capture your initial ideas about what an amazing career might look like for you, five years from now.It is a fun task where we enjoy envisaging together what your amazing career might look and feel like, in order to start clarifying where you might want to go next.


Talents | What are your career superpowers?
We’re all unique and have special talents which can help us in our careers. The problem is, what are they and how do we identify them? In this unit we’ll provide you a simple method to uncover your career superpowers, so you can set them more to work going forwards.


Timeline | What can you learn from your career?
In this unit you’ll look back across your career to date and visualise the highs and lows. We’ll then analyse your key roles to gain a deeper understanding of what you liked, didn’t like and your favourite memories. By looking across your career timeline, you’ll reflect on what you want to bring with you into your future career, and what you may want to leave behind.


Causes | What issues do you want to tackle in your career?
In this unit you’ll clarify the causes (issues) you feel strongly about which you may wish to tackle in your career. Causes are very personal, and might be large or small scale.We’ll lead you through a simple task designed to unearth your deepest passions, in order to give you more purpose.


Priorities | What are your career priorities?
In order to move forward in your career with more happiness, we’ll help you to identify the key elements which are important for you.Do you need a job that pays well, provides training, a flexible work-life balance, or something else? Through a simple task we’ll uncover what you need going-forwards so you can make better, more informed decisions.


Flow | When do you come alive in your work (and life)?
There are moments in our lives when we really come alive. We lose track of time, feel energised and excited about doing it again soon. These are moment of flow, and they tell us SO MUCH about what really matters to us. In this unit we’ll uncover your moments of flow, and seek to identify patterns from across them, in order to create more of these magic moments in our lives.


Revelations | What have you learnt?
This is a time for reflection, where you review everything you’ve learnt about yourself from the tasks so far and identify your biggest career revelations (so far). We’ll identify your biggest a-ha moments, and process them into a useful form to help provide clarity moving forwards.


Potential Directions | What are your career options?
In this unit we’ll help you to identify the potential directions you may wish to take in your career. Based on your work to date, and your career revelations, you’ll capture your ideas for potential future career directions, which may provide more impact and happiness for you, within the next five years.Has it confirmed your plans so far? Has it suggested a pivot in a new direction? Have you had a crazy idea that’s got you excited? We can’t wait to find out!


Outreach | What can you learn from others?
In this unit we’ll help you to speak with people doing roles which may provide a future career direction which provides you with more career impact, purpose and happiness. Using our archive of 35,000 conservation jobs in combination with LinkedIn, you’ll have a series of discussions to clarify which of your potential directions feel right to you personally. You’ll also begin the process of understanding of how you might get there.


Clarity | What direction do you wish to take in your career?
At this key stage in the course, you’ll seek to describe, as clearly and succinctly as you can, the direction you’d like to take in your career over the next five years.


Gaps | How to prepare for your next career move?
The goal of this unit, is to uncover any skills, experience, educational or knowledge gaps you may need to fill, in order to achieve your vision over the next five years. You’ll work through a step-by-step process to analyse job descriptions, past and present, to form a clear plan of action to identify and address any gaps.


Experience | How to secure the right experience?
Getting experience can be great way to test drive your next career move, address any employment gaps, build your network, and help you to stand out at interviews. In this unit we’ll help you to carefully reach out to other conservation professionals, with a view to securing an experience of working alongside them in an internship or similar position.


Side Hustles | How to engage in your ‘crazy career idea’?
Through the course you may have identified a ‘crazy idea’ that got your excited, and that you’d like to explore. In this unit we help you to engage with it as a side-hustle. Something you can do alongside your current work, for fun, with a view to finding more purpose, impact and happiness.


Personal Brand | How to position yourself online?
In this penultimate stage of the course, we help you to start building a personal brand around your chosen career direction. We help you to position yourself online – using social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram – to follow, share, support and engage within your chosen area of influence, and be seen as a potential thought leader. Through this you’ll widen your network, gain a deeper knowledge of your area, and improve your employment prospects.


Commitments | How to secure career success?
In this final unit we help you to reflect on what you’ve learnt, identify your next steps, and make a commitment to really make things happen. So you finish with a renewed sense of purpose, with clear direction and a roadmap to greater happiness and impact.
